For October 31

For next week:

Screens 56-61
Unit 1, Mod 2: Examining Relationships
Causation and Lurking Variables
Lab exercise: Body Image and Academic Performance of College Students

This is the end of module 2. Hopefully everyone is coming along with this and will finish this week or shortly thereafter.

In class on Thursday

  • we will talk about stats in the big outside world. Paul S. just gave me a good example which I can share with you.
  • Discuss your graphs from last week and decide what else we want to do by way of exploring the m&m data

For Oct 24

Here's the next bit to get done for this week.

Screens 48-55
Unit 1, Mod 2: Examining Relationships

Linear Relationships
--Calculate Correlation Coefficient
--Calculate & Plot a Linear Regression Line

In class on Thursday we will begin with a discussion of statistics in the big outside world. You know the drill.....

Following that you will work on analyzing and graphing the m&m data in response to one of the questions we identified last week. Feel free to add any additional questions to our planning document.

Case I One Categorical & One Quantitative Variable
Case II Two Categorical Variables - Calculate Two-Way Table
Case III Two Quantitative Variables: Scatterplots - Create a Scatterplot

In class on Thursday we will begin with a discussion of statistics in the big outside world. Bring to class any uses of statistics which you come across in your daily life, so we can discuss how the statistic(s) is being used.

Following that we will discuss graphs, both problematic ones and good ones. Be on the lookout for a graph which you would like us to discuss and bring the graph to class. We will also be planning the next steps with the m&m data.
