For Thurs, Dec 5

For next Thurs (a week from tomorrow), you should aim to finish Unit 2 on Producing Data and get started on Unit 3: Probability. Here's the plan for what to do:

Screens 80-99
80-84: Unit 2, Mod 4: Designing Studies
Modifications to randomization
Sample surveys
Wrap-up and Lab exercise: Treating depression--A randomized clinical trial
Summary
85-93: Unit 3, Mod 5: Introduction to probabillity
Introduction to probability
Relative frequency
94-99: Unit 3, Mod 5: Finding Probability of Events
Sample spaces and events
Equally likely outcomes

In class on Thursday, we will
  • talk about stats in the big outside world
  • discuss ideas related to survey sampling
  • work in pairs to design a survey of the shoppers at the Princeton Shopping Center

For Thursday, Nov 14

Sorry for the late notice, but of course you know to move ahead with your study. The next chuck to get done is:

Screens 69-79
69-70: Unit 2, Mod 4: Designing Studies
71: Introduction
72-73: Identifying Study Design
74-75: Causation and Observational Studies (by Nov 5)
76-78: Causation and Experiments - Create and Verify Random Samples
79: Experiments with More than One Explanatory Variable
In class on Thursday
  • We will talk about stats in the big outside world.
  • We will continue our discussion of regression and causation concepts in exploratory data analysis and then move on to discussing sampling.

66-68: Mod 2: Sampling
Sampling - Investigate Random Samples
Wrap-Up (Sampling)

In class on Thursday
  • We will talk about stats in the big outside world.
  • You will work together to identify and plan analyses for a research question which involves 2 variables.
